Decoding non-human communication isn't just cool science, it's a mirror for our own intelligence.

We spend a lot of time talking to machines. It turns out, we might have been better off listening to whales.

Researchers are now applying AI to decode the communication patterns of beluga whales. These animals live in complex social groups, and their 'chitchat'—a mix of whistles, clicks, and chirps—shows signs of regional culture and specific learned behaviors.

Using AI to parse this isn't just about conservation. It's a fundamental test of how we define intelligence. For years, we thought language was a human-only domain.
